“Singh”/ “Kaur”

2020 // Procreate

This diptych came from a surface design project brief that required Simran to explore the theme of opposites on two skateboard decks. One of the first themes Simran had settled on was Man and Woman but representing an Indian man and woman as opposed to the typical lighter toned figures found in Western art and culture. The drafts for what originally was just an illustration of a man and a woman soon began morphing into illustrations of a King and a Queen after further exploration of the figures designs. This diptych became a piece that honored Punjabi people and put them on a higher pedestal than where they usually fall in our Western society.
